Our response will include the pricing for your enquiry, and a suggested date for your sweep (or other service requested). We may ask you for some more information too.

We ask for your postcode in advance as we group all of our appointments by location. This makes the day more efficient, but is also more environmentally friendly to reduce driving.

How much does a sweep cost?

An open fire or log burner sweep costs £65+vat. There may be a small surcharge for certain circumstances. For example, plus £10+vat if your stove does not have a steel liner, or plus £15+vat if your open chimney is a walk in-sized Inglenook.

All of our pricing is visible in advance, will be confirmed with you in writing, and there are no hidden charges. Our Pricing page has the full details of all services.

How long does a sweep take?

A sweep typically takes between 30-45 minutes. The price allows for up to an hours work. If there is a significant amount of soot buildup or a large blockage to remove, it may take longer and we would always inform you first.

Is there any mess?

We take a lot of pride in keeping your home clean, and our customer reviews will testify to this. There should be no mess (although this cannot be 100% guaranteed). We have a wide range of sheets, foam blocks and magnets that we use to close off the fireplace effectively, and a powerful industrial hoover that works to collect any soot as we go. We will treat your home as if it is our own.

Do I get a certificate?

You do! We have a 6-step sweeping process as follows:

An external assessment of the chimney stack
An internal safety assessment of the room
An assessment of the fireplace/ stove and all working parts
A rotary power sweep of the flue
A type 2 smoke test
A certificate of the sweep for insurance

We also provide advice before, during, and after the sweep to ensure you have the knowledge to keep safe and warm all year round!

What are the signs that my chimney needs cleaning?

Firstly, there may be no signs at all. That's the problem! So, it's not a case of "if" your chimney needs sweeping, but "when".

However, you may also have a strong, unpleasant odor coming from your fireplace (particulary in the summer weather), smoke entering the room when you light a fire, or a visible accumulation of debris or blockage in the chimney.

If you notice any of these signs, it's important to have your chimney cleaned as soon as possible to prevent potential hazards.

How often should I have my chimney cleaned?

The frequency of chimney cleaning depends on several factors, including the type of fuel you burn, how often you use your fireplace or stove, and the age and condition of your chimney.

The following industry guidance is recommended:

If you are burning wood your chimney should be swept quarterly when in use. This typically equates to twice per year. For example, if you use your fire regularly between October and March, then a sweep in January and April is a sensible plan. As an absolute minimum it should be annually. We find this is what most customers go for.
If you are burning smokeless fuels your chimney should be swept at least once per year
If you are burning oil or gas your chimney should be swept at least once per year, with an additional safety and service check by a Gas Safe / OFTEC technician (as appropriate).

We also recommend booking in for the quieter months of March - July where there is more flexibility for appointments!

What should I do if I suspect a bird's nest?

If you think you have a nest, do not light your fire.

Bird's nest removal is a separate service. This costs £115+vat for the first hour. This price INCLUDES a chimney sweep and CCTV inspection to make sure that all debris has gone.

It's impossible to estimate in advance how long a nest removal will take. That is why we quote for 1 hour. We then charge £30+vat per 30 mins thereafter. Nests cannot be removed during nesting season (1st March - 31st August).

Do you cover my area?

We are based in Ellen's Green near Cranleigh. We typically cover a 10-12 mile radius, which puts the majority of our customer base in the RH, GU, KT and BN postcode districts.

We cover the major towns of Horsham, Crawley, Leatherhead, Guilford and Haslemere, as well as further south to Petworth, Storrington and Steyning, and all the villages in between.

We can travel further afield when required and have worked as far south as Brighton, and as far west as Winchester. All work requests are considered. There may be a fuel surcharge for a particularly adventurous journey.

We know that chimney sweeps can be hard to get hold of at busy times of the year, so we will do our best to reach you!
