Hello! I'm Karl, and I founded Step In Time Chimney Services. 

I love being part of the community here in the Surrey Hills, and I really enjoy doing a job that's interactive, challenging, and helps keep people safe. In fact, safety is a recurring theme for me. In a life before chimney sweeping, I worked in the security industry; managing busy contracts across London and the South East for a wide range of customers and sectors.

I take pride in my customer service, attention to detail, communication, and reactive on-the-job problem solving. I will never leave a job part-finished. I am supported in the business by my fiancée, Katie, who manages the administration, marketing and finance. 

We are also keen cyclists, runners and triathletes, so you may spot us in lycra in the villages of Surrey and west Sussex!

It's important to used a certified chimney sweep. We have been trained to national standards and can safely deliver a high-quality service. There are several organisations providing chimney sweep training in the UK, and I selected Rodtech UK. Rodtech started the rotary power sweeping revolution in the UK, creating a fast and highly effective methodology and cutting-edge equipment. 

I have successfully completed Rodtech's chimney sweeping and advanced fault finding qualification. This focused on learning chimney and stove design, appropriate building regulations, stove operation and maintenance, customer safety, problem solving, chimney sweeping history, and the latest power sweeping techniques and technology in the market today.

Our aim is to empower you with the knowledge to make your home a safe and warm space.  Furthermore, it's our job to make sure you know how to burn fuel efficiently and responsibly, with as little environmental impact as possible. 

When I do a sweep or service, I will point out the areas I am working on, and why, and make recommendations for improvement. These will help make your system more cost-effective and improve its longevity. The sweeping certificate will also document any recommendations that I have made.
